HYANNIS – The death of a Framingham man in Hyannis last week is under investigation by The Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office and Barnstable police.

This was a time of merriment, hearty eating, and giving thanks. In October 1621, the "first" Thanksgiving included two very culturally-diverse peoples and became a much-loved tradition that has changed over time. Learn about some of these changes, experience some of the culture, and compare then and "now"-- the 1830s!

The sheep get their yearly "haircuts" this weekend. Farmers shear the sheep, and costumed history interpreters demonstrate the entire wool textile process, from scouring and carding the wool to spinning, knitting and weaving the handspun wool yarn into a blanket.
Try your hand at carding the wool, and then see how the Village's 19th-century water-powered carding mill can do the same job much faster.
Meet the lambs, chickens, cows and oxen, and watch a host of daily demonstrations, including musket firing, hearth cooking, printing, coopering, blacksmithing, shoe-making and launching toy hot air balloons.
Girl Scout Days at Old Sturbridge Village offer Girl Scouts, and their families and friends, the opportunity to learn about America's proud past! Our recreated community portrays a "typical" New England town of the early 19th century. It is divided into three distinct areas: the Center Village, the Countryside, and the Mill Neighborhood. The historical mills, shops, homes, working farm, district school, commercial buildings, and meetinghouses re-create a community where authentically costumed Villagers demonstrate and discuss with visitors the daily life, work, and celebrations of 19th-century New Englanders.
Registration for 50-minute hands-on studio activites will open approximately one month in advance of the event date. These activities are designed to meet Brownies Try-Its and Junior Girl Scout Badge requirements. Additional Studios not meeting badge requirements will also be available for all Scouts and youths. In order to be eligible to participate in Dog Days at Old Sturbridge Village, the following policy will be enforced:
Owner of the dog must be a member of Old Sturbridge Village. "Guest" dogs are not eligible. Entrance to the Village is extended to dogs only, no other animals.
Owner/member must show valid paper dog license upon arrival at the Visitor Center.
Dogs are to be kept on a leash and under control at all times while on Old Sturbridge Village property.
Dogs are to be accompanied by owner/member at all times. Dogs may not be tied and left unaccompanied.
Dogs are not allowed inside of any exhibit building, food service building, gift shop or in the Playground area.
For the safety of other visitors as well as other animals, please keep dogs away from livestock including cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys as well as horses that are pulling the carryall and stagecoach.
A plastic bag will be issued to every owner/member upon arrival at the Visitor Center to clean up after their dog while on Old Sturbridge Village property.
Any violation of this policy will be reported to Old Sturbridge Village Security who may ask the owner/member to leave with their dog.

See the largest military re-enactment in New England with soldiers portraying British, Irish, Welsh, German, Scottish, French and Colonial troops. The Village is transformed into a military camp from the time of the War for Independence, as it was known in early New England. Come see what it was really like for those who fought to win America's freedoms.
Daytime events include a mock battle each afternoon, cannon-firing demonstrations, fife and drum music, and marching and drilling demonstrations. See how laundry was done, and meet the surgeons who tended to the wounded and administered smallpox inoculations.
On Saturday, stay for special extended hours. The Village will be open until 8:00 p.m. for a special evening program, "Twilight Encampment," when visitors can mingle with troops in their camps from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. There is no additional charge for the evening program. (The Village will close at its normal time, 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.)
Food and beverages will be available for sale in the Village Cafe, Bullard Tavern Cafe. Grilled items and ice cream, as well as wine and beer will also be sold in the Village. Visitors may bring in their own food, but no outside alcohol is allowed.

The Village comes alive with the lost sounds and sights of 19th-century popular music and art with more than 50 singers, dancers, musicians, and artists. Singers will present solo a cappella vocal performances of 19th-century songs and ballads, and a concert by the OSV Singers. Visitors can enjoy fife and drum music and a performance on the museum's antique pipe organ. Artists will demonstrate early 1800s-style sketching, silhouette cutting, watercolor and painting. Visitors can learn 19th-century dances, paper marbling, and how to play the jaw harp and tin whistle.
